for Snack Lovers

green chili stuffed recipe

If you love spicy desi snacks, then Potato Stuffed Green

Chili is something you must try. This delicious recipe is

popular in many parts of South Asia, especially in Pakistan

and India. Large green chilies are filled with a flavorful

mashed potato mixture, coated in gram flour batter,

and deep fried until crispy and golden. The result is

a crunchy outside with a soft and spicy filling inside.

This snack is similar in style to the famous Indian

Mirchi Bajji, but with a special potato stuffing that

makes it even more filling and satisfying. It is perfect

for evening tea, Ramadan iftar, rainy days, or when

you are craving something crispy and spicy.

In this blog, you will learn everything about this

tasty snack, including its taste, benefits, cooking tips,

and full recipe.

Why You Will Love Potato
Stuffed Green Chili?

There are many reasons why this recipe is so popular:

  • It is crispy from the outside and soft from the inside.

  • It has a balanced spicy and tangy flavor.

  • It is budget-friendly and easy to make.

  • It uses simple ingredients available in every kitchen.

  • It can be served as a snack, appetizer, or side dish.

Even people who are not big fans of green chilies often

enjoy this recipe because the potato filling reduces the

sharp heat of the chili and adds delicious flavor.

Taste and Texture

The taste of potato stuffed green chili is a perfect

combination of spicy, savory, and slightly tangy flavors.

The green chilies give a mild heat, while the mashed

potato filling adds comfort and richness. Spices like

red chili powder, coriander powder, cumin, and chaat

masala enhance the flavor.

The outer gram flour (besan) coating becomes crispy

after frying, giving a crunchy bite. Inside, the potatoes

stay soft and flavorful. When served with mint chutney

or tamarind sauce, the taste becomes even more exciting.

Health Benefits of Green Chilies

and Potatoes

Although this is a fried snack, it still has some

nutritional benefits when eaten in moderation.

1. Rich in Vitamin C

Green chilies are rich in Vitamin C, which helps

boost immunity and support skin health.

2. Good Source of Energy

Potatoes are full of carbohydrates that provide quick

energy. They also contain potassium, which supports

heart health.

3. Contains Fiber

Both potatoes and gram flour contain fiber, which

helps improve digestion.

If you want a healthier version, you can air fry or

shallow fry the stuffed chilies instead of deep frying.

Here is a simple and easy ingredient list:

For the Stuffing:

  • 4–5 large green chilies

(thick variety, less spicy)

  • 1–2 green chilies (finely chopped)

  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder

  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder

  • ¼ teaspoon readymade Achaar masala

For the Batter:

  • 1 cup gram flour (besan)

  • ½ teaspoon turmeric powder

  • ½ teaspoon red chili powder

  • Salt to taste

  • Water (as needed to make thick batter)

For Frying:

  • Oil for deep frying

Method!!!!

Step 1: Prepare the Green Chilies

Wash the green chilies and pat them dry.

Make a slit in the center lengthwise and remove

the seeds carefully. This helps reduce extra

spiciness.

Step 2: Make the Potato Filling

In a bowl, add mashed potatoes, chopped onion,

green chilies, spices, salt, coriander leaves, and

lemon juice.

Mix everything well until combined.

Step 3: Stuff the Chilies

Fill each green chili with the prepared potato mixture.

Press gently so the stuffing stays inside.

Step 4: Prepare the Batter

In another bowl, mix gram flour, turmeric powder,

red chili powder, and salt. Add water slowly and

make a smooth, thick batter without lumps.

Step 5: Fry the Stuffed Chilies

Heat oil in a deep pan on medium heat.

Dip each stuffed chili into the batter, coat it well,

and carefully place it in hot oil. Fry until golden

brown and crispy.

Remove and place on kitchen paper to absorb

excess oil.
